In Saskatchewan you will be required to do a name search of a proposed name for a corporation, a partnership, business name, sole proprietorship and extra-provincial corporation being registered in that province prior to that registration being accepted. Saskatchewan has its own name clearance system and will not accept a NUANS Name Search report from the NUANS System. In Saskatchewan you cannot register any name which is exactly or similar to another name already registered.
In order to clear your proposed Saskatchewan name you will need to request a name reservation from the Saskatchewan government. You will be provided with a Reservation Number that you can quote when you go to register your sole proprietorship, partnership, business name, company name or extra-provincial corporation.
You can do an online search by attending the Saskatchewan Justice, Corporations Branch, Corporate Registry . The Saskatchewan government takes VISA and Mastercard only for online requests. You will be requested to open up an account. This is very simple and will only take a couple of minutes. You will then have immediate access to the section where you can request a name clearance. There is a fee of $50 to search three possible names. If you wish the service to be expedited there will be an additional charge of $100 and they will also fax the results to you for another $5 fee. If you do not agree with receiving the results by fax, the results will be sent by mail which could result in a delay. There is no option for receiving results by email.
You will be allowed to search three possible names for that $50. What happens if the names that you pick are not available? You will have spent $50 for nothing. Now, to try and minimize this expense you should do your own preliminary name clearance.
