A certificate of status can be obtained for any registered company in Canada.

These certificates are normally not issued to partnerships, sole proprietorships or for operating trade names although some provinces will issue them for partnerships.

Depending on the jurisdiction it can be called a different name as follows:

Federal Companies – Certificate of Compliance

British Columbia Companies – Certificate of Good Standing

Alberta, Ontario and all other Provinces and Territories – Certificate of Status
